Terry, a seasoned auto insurance agent, was known for his knack of predicting the unexpected. He’d seen it all – from the car that fell off a cliff to the one that was swallowed by a sinkhole. But even he was taken aback by the peculiar case of Mr. Patel.

Mr. Patel was a man of few words, but his insurance needs were as simple as they came: a basic policy, minimum coverage. Terry tried to explain the benefits of additional coverages, like comprehensive and collision, but Mr. Patel was adamant. "I don't need that extra stuff," he'd said, his voice flat. "I'm a careful driver."

Terry sighed and filled out the paperwork. As he handed the policy to Mr. Patel, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was setting himself up for a "I told you so" moment. He'd seen it happen before – a customer declines additional coverage, something unfortunate happens, and then they come back to the agent with a long list of regrets.

A few months later, Terry received a call from Mr. Patel. "There's been an accident," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "My car was stolen."

Terry's heart sank. He knew exactly where this was going. "I'm so sorry to hear that, Mr. Patel," he said. "Was there any damage to the car before it was stolen?"

"No," Mr. Patel replied. "It was parked in my driveway."

Terry took a deep breath. "Well, in that case, your comprehensive coverage would have covered the theft."

There was a long pause on the other end of the line. "Comprehensive coverage?" Mr. Patel repeated. "But I didn't get that."

Terry tried to keep his tone neutral. "That's right, Mr. Patel. You declined it when you purchased the policy."

Another pause. Then, Mr. Patel's voice grew louder. "But you said I didn't need it!"

Terry couldn't help but smile. "I did, Mr. Patel. I tried to explain the benefits of comprehensive coverage, but you insisted on the minimum."

He paused, letting the words sink in. "And now, here we are."

Mr. Patel was silent for a moment. Then, he sighed. "I guess you were right."

Terry couldn't resist. "I told you so."

He heard a chuckle on the other end of the line. "Yeah, you did."

As Terry hung up the phone, he couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. He'd warned Mr. Patel about the risks of declining additional coverage, and now, the customer had learned his lesson the hard way. It was a classic case of "I told you so," and Terry was glad he'd been right.
